I am just returning from a craft show this weekend, and thought I would share my recent encounter. This occured with another candle vendor at the same venue. Said crafter came to my booth and expressed how he liked my candles, but of course his was better and I should look into purchasing some of HIS candles for my online store. Now that in of itself is enough to set me off....but no there is more and yes it gets much, much worse.
He started looking at my Spell Lights line, these are glass tealights with herbs inside sort of like affirmation candles, but different. I came up with this idea on my own, I didn't go and steal it from anyone. While looking at my tealights in a glass jar he stated "this is a good idea, I like this idea. How would you feel if I stole this idea?" Uhhh excuse me? I said you can't they are trademarked. "Ahh" he said... your name is trademarked your glass jars are not. WTF??? At that moment I was distracted by customers and some kids milling around the rocks I have for sale. When I turned around to tell him where to go and how to get there...he was gone.
How freaking rude!! Even if he was kidding, and I doubt this, you NEVER, EVER do that to another vendor!!! I vented to the person that runs the show, and he went and found him and told him to knock it off. Later in the day he returned to "apologize he would never do such a thing" yeah right. Then he had the nerve to ask where I got my jars! I clammed up and didn't say a word. How rude! How unethical! So ladies, gentlemen protect you products! Watermark those pics, get patented or trademarked. Yes it is a little expensive, but as you see there are butheads out there that WILL steal your ideas and pass it off as their own.
Ok off soapbox...thank you for your time,
