Good afternoon.  I need some social media help :) I would like to use a hash tag for like a 24 hour period across several outlets like Twitter & Facebook.  At the end of 24 hours I want to be able to track the use of the hash tag across both of these outlets.  Do you know of any resources that can assist me in this?  Mostly I want to know who's reading my posts & then using the hash tags.  My ultimate goal is to see if I have motivated anyone to respond using my hash tag.  I am sure this would come in handy in lots of areas but my immediate thought is to have people respond to my posts.  I would greatly appreciate any suggestions that you may have.

HootSuite is a very powerful and low cost tool that allows you to track everything from hashtags to links to ReTweets, etc. My team and I use it. We pay a monthly fee, but it's not too bad for the tracking we take advantage of.

In fact, HootSuite just released new social analytics offerings yesterday. You can track brand name mentions, hashtags, follower increases or decreases and so much more. You can find out more here. HootSuite is a very powerful tool and its increased offerings are one of the reasons they won me over from Tweetdeck and PeopleBrowsr.

I think the devil, as they say, is in the details, and depending on exactly what you are trying to accomplish, there may be more specific things to recommend. I bet HootSuite would serve you well though, not just for this project but for your business overall.
